The first of 138 McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornets were delivered to the RCAF in 1982. Canadian pilots have since flown the aircraft on NORAD patrols, in the 1991 Gulf War and on operations in the Balkans. They helped enforce the Libyan no-fly zone in 2011 and conducted operations against ISIL from 2014-2016. First deliveries of its replacement, the Lockheed Martin F-35, are slated for 2026.
