Crewed by 10 and bristling with up to 13 .50-calibre machine guns, the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was the iconic daylight bomber of WW II. Reliable, durable and instantly recognizable, it was along with the nighttime Lancaster a mainstay of the bombing campaign over Nazi-occupied Europe between 1942 and 1945. More B-17Gs were produced than any other version.
