With a noisy call and a blue, white and black plumage, the Blue Jay can be found in Southern Alberta eastward to Quebec and throughout Atlantic Canada. The long-tailed songbird, the Cardinal, is found in southern parts of Canada. The distinctive males are brilliant red with a black mask and short, thick bill. Another favourite and the official bird of New Brunswick is the Black-Capped Chickadee—also found from coast to coast. This cute and curious bird has an oversized round head, black cap and a grey, back and whitish underside. Goldfinch males have a brilliant yellow and shiny black plumage with a bit of white. The Barn Swallow is identified with a metallic blue plumage, a cinnamon underside, a chestnut throat and forehead and a deeply forked tail with long outer feathers.
