Oh, to sing and soar among the clouds! The Spitfire was known for its deft handling, so admired by its pilots that their common refrain was that “you don’t fly a Spitfire, you wear it.” The plane’s signature elliptical wings were designed by Canadian aerodynamicist Bev Shenstone. It was the quintessential British fighter of the Second World War, flown by 14 Canadian squadrons.
